Get organised

Are you an organised person or is your life chaos? Is there stuff all over your house, many jobs that are yet to be done? Does this fall back onto your children who function in the same chaotic way?

Our lives are busy and we don't have a lot of spare time. It's normal to hear the phrase time pore. Add to our lack of time the issue of also filling ours and our children's lives with stuff. It makes for a messy living and mental environment. How hard is it to think straight and get things done when there is stuff around you house, every where you look?

If you're that type of person chances are you're raising children who are also that type of person. Too much stuff, not enough time to organise it all.
Being organised is a vital function we need to learn growing up because when we go out into the real world (leave home, start work) people expect us to be organised, at work, in our own homes.

If you're house looks like an episode from Hoarders R Us here's somethings you can do with your children to help them and you get organised.

Put large plastic bags or boxes near the wardrobes and each time to find an item of clothing that doesn't fit put it in the bag/box. When full take these items to the opp shop.

Do the same with old toys. Those baby toys your child had no longer suit now they're 7 so put them in the box as well.

You've heard the saying everything has a place. Teach your children to live by this motto. Have spots where stuff goes. All the paper and drawing items can go in their craft box. All the toy cars and airplanes, or dolls and dress-ups can go in a toy box. All their collection cards can go in card holders which sit neatly on book shelves. Even their clothes have sections in the draws or cupboard.

If you're messy and your family live this way you'll most likely pass that on to your children who will also be messy and add to your chaos. Not only is living this way not fun, it's mentally stressful, you're also not utilising the help that children can be. Children are very handy to have around and can help run the ship that is your household. Learn to make time to get these jobs done even if it's only a couple of hours a week and learn to get the family involved so that you're all playing a part in getting and being organised.
